Award for Best Social Housing Development

Award-winning building firm D. Brown Building Contractors were delighted to have the high quality of its work recognised again this spring by North Kesteven District Council’s (NKCD) Building Control Unit.

At a special ceremony the Mouton Seas End-based builder was presented with an award for Best Social or Affordable Housing Development – one of 17 awards made by the Council.

D Brown were responsible for the construction of 13 new homes at Northfield Road in Ruskington during 2014 which were built to increase NKDC’s stock of one and two-bed options.

Constructed on the site of former sheltered housing, the design by Chaplin Farrant incorporates curved walls, box window projections, full high windows and brise soleil canopies.

Also key were exceedingly high levels of thermal insulation and energy efficiency, and the flexibility to increase or decrease room size and number.

Peter Pitt, Senior Contracts Manager for D Brown, said they were delighted to have had the Companies work on the project recognised by the Council.

It will now go forward to compete in the regional Local Authority Building Control awards this summer, which honour designers, developers and builders involved in schemes which the local Building Control Department consider worthy of recognition.

This was the third year that awards were given by the Council’s Building Control Department in recognition of unusual design, innovative ideas, sustainability, high standards or the overall quality of a building project.

They were announced by Paul Weldon, Building Control Manager at NKDC, which monitors a building’s structural safety and compliance with Building Regulations, accessibility and sustainability criteria.

“One of the things we are really proud of in our district is the quality of the design and construction of new buildings and conversions,” he said.
